THE DEGREE OF POSSESSION OF FUNCTIONAL LANGUAGE SKILLS AMONG STUDENTS ‎WITH ‎MILD INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS IN THE ‎STATE OF ‎KUWAIT

The study aimed to identify the degree to which students with ‎intellectual ‎disabilities in special education schools in the State of ‎Kuwait possess ‎functional language skills. The study used the ‎descriptive survey method. ‎For the purposes of the study, a ‎questionnaire consisting of (24) items was ‎prepared, divided into ‎four domains: functional listening, functional ‎speaking, functional ‎reading, and functional writing. It was distributed to ‎a sample of ‎students with intellectual disabilities in the State of Kuwait, ‎which ‎amounted to (156) male and female students, who were answered ‎by ‎their teachers. The results of the study showed that the ‎estimates of the ‎degree of possession of functional language skills ‎among students with ‎intellectual disabilities in special education ‎schools in the State of Kuwait, ‎the functional language skills were ‎average in all domains. In light of the ‎results, the study ‎recommended the need to use various educational ‎programs in ‎order to develop the language skills of students with ‎intellectual ‎ disabilities
