THE DEGREE OF POSSESSION OF FUNCTIONAL LANGUAGE SKILLS AMONG STUDENTS WITH MILD INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF KUWAIT
The study aimed to identify the degree to which students with intellectual disabilities in special education schools in the State of Kuwait possess functional language skills. The study used the descriptive survey method. For the purposes of the study, a questionnaire consisting of (24) items was prepared, divided into four domains: functional listening, functional speaking, functional reading, and functional writing. It was distributed to a sample of students with intellectual disabilities in the State of Kuwait, which amounted to (156) male and female students, who were answered by their teachers. The results of the study showed that the estimates of the degree of possession of functional language skills among students with intellectual disabilities in special education schools in the State of Kuwait, the functional language skills were average in all domains. In light of the results, the study recommended the need to use various educational programs in order to develop the language skills of students with intellectual disabilities
